We celebrated Froglet's sixth birthday yesterday.

OMG. Froglet is six! Froglet is six? I can't quite believe it -- and yet, I can't imagine a time when she wasn't there anymore.

She's done a lot of things already, my Froglet. She's been on transatlantic flights, quite a few of them, actually - she even once travelled in business class (I was flying on my own with the kids: Husband donated Frequent Flyer Miles). She's been to the beach in winter: the French West Indies, and Florida. She has touched lots of animals: a deer, a rabbit, a chinchilla, a killer whale, a beluga, a small shark, a baby alligator; she could have had a snake around her neck, but she wouldn't go near the poor thing. She's been on the Maid of the Mist, the boat that goes "in the shower", as she said: close enough to the Niagara Falls to get you seriously wet.

She speaks two languages.

And three days ago, at the zoo, little Lucca, the boy who didn't want to let go of her hand, said: "I love you" to her. I believe he was the first little boy to say that to her.

As a parent, it is absolutely wonderful to be a part, or better yet, an instigator, of their first times: take them to the movies; take them to the zoo; take them feed the killer-whale at Marineland; take them to Cirque du Soleil; and enjoy the wonder in their eyes and the smile on their faces.

It seems that that innocent pleasure isn't lost on them, either. Froglet got an electric kitten for her birthday (it mews, purrs, and drinks from a plastic milk bottle -- only if it drank milk as often as the girls feed it, it would have exploded by now), and when she asked us to put Fantasia on for her yesterday, she first ran to her room to get her kitten: "Minou (that's the kitten) needs to watch with me, she's never seen it before! It's her FIRST MOVIE!"

In the hope of finally finding an ally, Husband (sole representant of the XY variety in our household, everyone else, including the cat, being of the female persuasion) asked Froglet: "Is Minou a daddy-cat or a mommy-cat?" (Note: Minou is usually masculine. A lady-cat would be Minette. Husband's hope was fully justified.)

To which Froglet answered with her best "DUH!" face: "Daddy. It's a BABY-cat."

But when pressed, she said Minou was a baby-girl-cat.

And Husband, still all alone in his maleness, slunk away and went back to his sewing-machine.

Oh, your poor husband! *helpless giggle fit* I want to give him a hug. Except that would be yet another woman to deal with, and therefore rather counterproductive. Someone needs to give him a Manly HugTM. :D :D :D

I find it funny that his refuge is his sewing machine. HA!

Happy Birthday to the cutest smartest well-travelled bilingual girl with a babygirlcat called Minou in the whole world :)

Your kids are adorable actually, always such a treat to read about what they've been up to :)

And Husband, still all alone in his maleness, slunk away and went back to his sewing-machine.

Yes, very butch ::giggle::

Happy Birthday Froglet!!! *snuggles her* 6 is a very big age. It's when you now have to use TWO hands to show your age and to me, that's big. The next jump of appendages is 11, when you must use two hands and a foot. Or possibly someone else's hand.

*hugs rainette as well.* You are doing a fantastic job.

Oh my goodness! Six? That's such a big age! It feels big to me partially because I remember being six!

Wow. Now I've gone into a my-little-siblings-are-growing-up-so-fast! trance. It really is amazing.

Your Tadpole is an amazing, accomplished, vivacious, curious big girl who has already begun to make her mark in the wird. Please pass on the biggest best birthday wishes from me! <33

okay *goes to sleep* how are things going?

Manly HugTM *giggles*

Well, to be fair he also enjoys getting all the attention from all the women in the house (or female beings, one of them is a cat after all). ;)

*hugs you too* Thank you! We had a great time! (and the big celebration is yet to come, I am currently printing out the invitations. With March break and Easter, we've decided to celebrate later.)

Thank you very much! :) We had a great time, and there is a birthday party yet to come -- in April, since March was pretty much eaten up by March break and Easter.

I find them adorable too *proud mom smile* They come up with new things every day.

*hugs Patty lots and lots* Thank you!

I explained that to Froglet (I showed her that now she needs TWO hands to show her age), and she was very very proud :D

The next jump of appendages is 11, when you must use two hands and a foot. Or possibly someone else's hand.

*giggles* I love that concept.

:D I will, only it's Froglet's birthday, not Tadpole. Tadpole had her bithday a month ago. :D

And I guess it must be very late and you are tired, Ally darling.

We're doing well, thank you! Still busy (my new task is to make invitations for Froglet's 25 closest friends - I know, it's a lot - to come to her pool party in two week's time, and then I need to make loot bags, order a cake and balloons, etc. OMG, and get Tadpole dressed, cos Tadpole? Is ALL NEKKID again.)

Blast, I thought i fixed that. I noticed as soon as i posted, and I tried deleting and re-posting but somewhere in there I lost the name change... *cries* (i was am very tired.)

25 friends? Should be an exciting party! Good luck with the preparations.

I was just discussing with a friend the merits of being naked as a little kid. We decided it was pretty much more natural for an infant-toddler to be without clothes than to be with them!

Oh, I agree, and so does Tadpole. It is actually a little less easy to do over here, where people put two-piece bathing suits on 6-months-olds, than it is in France -- where no one is shocked to see littles one all nekkid on the beach.

I have no problem with naked little kids, but I do care that they should know how to behave in public (for their own safety mostly), i.e. they shouldn't just take all their clothes off when they are with people they do not know that well...

(PS: and it's ok, it happens. I know all about being exhausted myself, actually. ;) Try to take care of yourself and get some sleep, though, Ally.)
