Tadpole likes apple tart without apples, i.e. I get to eat the apples and she eats the rest. But I am not sure she would actually want to eat the crust if I had just baked it, as is, without any apples.

Tadpole only likes milk in which cereals have macerated for a while. So she asks for a bowl of cereals (Special K with almonds), fishes out all the almonds (tiens, maman, there you go, mum), eats a few spoonfuls, then decides she's had enough and only wants to drink the milk (guess who finishes the cereals?). But she will not have milk that hasn't previously contained cereals. It's not the same milk.

Tadpole like hot dogs with ketchup, she says. But we know better. We know she likes hot dogs with ketchup, but without a bun. Oh, and hold the saussage, too.

Tadpole might also tell you that she likes smores, but she doesn't usually warn you that she likes them without graham crackers or marshmallows. She's still the first one to petition for roasted marshmallows, but that is only because she likes to set them on fire, then blow them out. And then? She presents the charred remains of the marshmallow to me, and expects me to eat it. *makes face*

Tadpole will not eat anything that is obviously cooked, especially not meat. She's truly French, that kid, and loves rare beef, but seulement le rose, maman, only the pink bits, mum.

Tadpole will not touch the melted cheese on potato gratin, either. Funny, that: I remember not liking it either, as a child, and my parents always said "but it's the best part!" and fought over who would get my share of fromage gratiné. Now we do that, with Husband, since both our girls hate the melted cheese on potato gratin. Round and round we go.

So I am grateful for cheerios, and plain bagels with cream cheese, and baby carrots, and uncooked apples. I am grateful for every item of healthy food I get that child to actually eat.
