BIRTHDAY PARTY!
Feb. 28th, 2006 09:56 amSo we had the animal lady over again, like we did last year. She brought a bunny (OMG LEVITATING BUNNY! She had the bunny on a towel, and she moved it from kid to kid by simply lifting the towel), a chinchilla, a snake, a hedgehog (who ate a worm, to the kids' great delight. "EWWWWW!" They exclaimed with relish), a gecko, a hamster, a bag full of cranky sugar-gliders (can't touch them, they bite, but we listened to them GROWL) and a pooping dove (he pooped on a kid. Ahahahahaha).
The lady took one good look at Tadpole and saw the genuine animal lover in her, so she allowed her to actually carry the dishevelled and untidy but very friendly hamster around herself, and then the smug gecko (who just sat on Tadpole's hand, looking utterly satisfied with life and himself). Tadpole was very pleased and proud.
She touched all the animals she was allowed to touch (including the bristly hedgehog), and blew her candles three times. The first time, she blew them too soon and we didn't have the time to sing; the second time, hello, mummy, where's your camera? (On the kitchen counter, oh dear). And the third time we took the picture, yay!
We had one interesting moment when my friend V. called, right before the party:
V. : Do the kids have to wear snow suits?
rainette: No?
V. *starts giggling* : I thought so, but my husband started packing them in Extra Warm clothes, so I said, there's no need for that, and then he said, hello, petting zoo...
rainette: ?
V. : THEY'RE NOT GOING TO HAVE A COW IN THEIR LIVING-ROOM.
rainette *pictures enormous farm van backing up in our tiny dead-end street and unceremoniously dropping one cow, three sheep and half a dozen goats in our backyard and starts giggling too*
Husband had to leave right at the end of the party (going to Berlin, wah), and I have to say, I really have wonderful friends. When they saw him leave, they quickly went to work while I was saying goodbye to Tadpole's friends and assorted parents, so that by the time I was done with my social duties, there was nothing left for me to do: they had already cleaned up everything they could, and this was muchly appreciated.
Cos then, I was allowed to simply collapse on the couch and help Tadpole unpack her many pretty presents. She had a marvellous time, and now, I get to rest for about a week.
And then we start all over. Cos Froglet's birthday party? Is on March 18th. *facepalm*
