la_rainette: (COWGIRL!)
I really should add the context to the video I posted yesterday evening.

Froglet is now in 4th grade. She's learning lots of new things and is very proud of being a Big Girl. Occasionally she hugs us and exclaims "I CAN'T BELIEVE I AM IN 4TH GRADE". Yes, I know. It always takes us by surprise too :D.

Yesterday, she learned about Google. Oh, she knows how to get on the internet and find her favourite game sites, but they only JUST learned about Googling, so she was very excited about doing her own experiments with Internet searches. So, very carefully, she typed in "patinage artistique", because Froglet is an avid skater, and hit the enter key.

This video was the first thing that came up. I am really sorry that I wasn't sitting next to her when she watched it for the first time, because that must have been priceless.

Now, Froglet is just like me when I was her age (and still sometimes today). We look at the world and whenever it makes no sense, we just take it in stride with a brief "wtf? I really hadn't seen this one coming". That makes us very gullible at times, because we don't question things enough.

Froglet called me after a while, and showed me a very beautiful video of a Chinese teenager free skating at the Junior world championship.

rainette: wow.
Froglet: yes, it's not like the Big Fall.
rainette: what Big Fall?
Froglet: here, let me show you. *plays video*
rainette *hadn't seen this coming and cracks the fuck up*
Froglet *watches with grim determination*
rainette: Froglet?
Froglet: What?
rainette *pets Froglet's hand* There is no lake under the arena. It doesn't double as a pool in the summer.
Froglet *with obvious relief* OH! But then, how did this happen?
rainette: I didn't happen, sweetie. I don't know how they made the video, but I swear, that can't happen.*
Froglet *beams at me* good. No water, so no sharks, either, so that's really good.

No, sweetie. No sharks, and no Great Big Lakes under your arena. You can break a bone when you fall on the ice, but you can't break the ice. :)

* Husband tried to watch the video image by image, but it couldn't be done. He managed to stop it at the right places though, so that we could almost see how they erased the skater pixel by pixel to make her disappear, but it's really really well done.
