Early morning conversation in the car:

rainette: ... so Tadpole, we need to buy a birthday present for Mia. What do you think she would like?
Tadpole: A pony.
rainette: ... a pony? As in, a small HORSE?
Tadpole *rolls eyes*: a pony as in My Little Pony. Or a Pet Shop.
rainette *opens mouth, remembers littlest petshop toys, wisely closes mouth again* ...
Froglet: anyways, who would want a REAL PONY for their birthday, mum?
rainette: who would indeed. Think of all the poop. Horsepoop all over the place!
Froglet: Think of the size of the giftbox. Where would we find a giftbox that big?

Age, I find, doesn't change the universe, but it certainly changes your perspective on things.
