Rainette: And a good morning to you, too!
Théo: mrrrrrr?
Rainette: I know what you want, yes I do!
Théo: mrrrrrrrmeowmeowmrrrr?
Rainette: You want a wittle piece of butter, yes you do.
Théo: mrrrrrrrrrrrrmeowmrrrrrrr?
Rainette: ok, ok, there you go.
Théo: mrrrrrrr!!! *gobbles and runs off*
Rainette *fondly*: ungrateful bastard.
Husband: ... and who exactly do you think you are talking to on this fine fine morning?
Rainette: Théo?
Husband: ...
This past Sunday, while apple picking at the local farm:
Froglet: Why HELLO there, mr Ladybug!
Ladybug: !
Froglet: Goodday to you, Sir! This is a pretty, pretty apple you are sitting on. Mind if I pick it?
Ladybug: ?
Froglet: Please kindly move to this leaf? Or maybe I could move you if you let me?
Ladybug: !!
Husband: WHAT DOES YOUR DAUGHTER THINK SHE IS DOING?
Rainette: she is talking to the ladybug. And please note that she is YOUR daughter too.
Husband: NOT WHEN SHE SPEAKS TO INSECT. YOU'RE THE ONE WHO TALKS TO CATS. YOU'RE RESPONSIBLE.
Froglet *picks apple, sees spider on apple, drops apple* Ew.
Rainette: you don't speak to spiders?
Froglet *reasonably* Nobody speaks to spiders, they're icky.
Tadpole: I do! I tell the spider: NASTY SPIDER, GO AWAY!
Rainette: and does Mr. Spider leave?
Tadpole *giggles* Nope...
Husband: YOU'RE ALL NUTS I DO NOT KNOW YOU *stomps off*
Tadpole: ... and then I squish Mr. Spider.
Rainette: Well done, sweetpea.
In the meanwhile, Husband the Reasonable One, He Who Does Not Speak To Animals, lost all sense of proportion when confronted with a great many Pretty Apples on just as many Pretty Trees. *sighs* Not counting the three REALLY BIG BAGS we bought at the farm (which probably weigh in at 15 to 20 pounds each), we picked 97 pounds of apples. That's right, ninety-seven pounds. That's 235 Empire apples alone, and just as many (possibly EVEN MORE)Northern Spy apples (best baking apple EVER).
Apple pie, anyone?
