la_rainette: (don't panic by Terry)

Ooooh, boy, I have a feeling that this week is about to become a white rabbit week: "I'm late, I'm late, I'm late" all over again.

The girls started zoo camp today. My friend V. and I had it all planned out: we have two children in zoo camp full days (her son and my Froglet), and Tadpole goes only in the afternoon. So she would take them in the morning, then I would drive Tadpole over later on, and bring everyone back. So far, so good.

Then I noticed that I had spendidly goofed and not realized that the full-day camps ended half and hour earlier that Tadpole's half-day camp, thus leaving a mere 2 1/2 hours between the time I drop Tadpole off and I pick the older ones up. OK, I said, big deal. I'll take the 2 1/2 hours and go shopping, or read, or something.

And then I got work to do, ahahahahaha.

And then?

Remember the Hurricane boys? The little guys who pushed my cat in the toilet?

Well, P., the older brother, is in full-day camp. L. the younger one, in half-day camp. Only his camp is in the morning. Their mom wants to car-pool too, and would like to help out with the driving to and fro, but she doesn't have a van and cannot take more than 3 kids in her car.

So.

4 kids going every morning, 4 kids coming out every afternoon.

This is how it works.

V. drops her two girls at my home at 8:00 am, and leaves with my 2 girls. She then drives over to pick up the two boys, and drives everyone to the zoo. She then comes back and picks up her little ones from my place, and drops the car seats at the same time. In the evening, I pick up the 3 older ones, and we wait for Tadpole, and then I drive everyone home.

The older ones had little patience after a while. So they climbed on the nearby trees.

P: *sits on tree*.
Unknown kid *wants to climb too*
P *from vantage position Up There*: Oh no, you can't climb, the tree is too fragile.
rainette *blinks*

P. : Can we go now?
rainette: well, we have to wait for Tadpole. But I'll tell you what: tomorrow, while we wait for Tadpole, we'll go have an ice-cream, what do you think?
P: OH YES! I know exactly the ice-cream I want: the choco-cone one that costs FOUR DOLLARS.
rainette: *blinks* Uh, how about a popsicle?

In the morning, L. had a similar scene with my friend V.

L. *bellows that he doesn't want to go, won't go, WILL bite and kick if we insist, etc.*
V. : Honey, please go. Do it for me? And if you're good, I'll bring you a surprise tomorrow, how is that?
L. *sniffles, blows nose*: Can I have a PlayStation?
V. *blinks*: Uh, how about a lollipop?

Negociations with children are tough these days.

Tadpole too had a most remarkable melt-down before camp started, and I had a big painful lump in my throat as I left her, all small and sad and crying, with her group. As a consequence, I spent a miserable two and a half hours, even though I was pretty sure that her tears had dried the second I had been gone.

Sure enough, she was happy to see us at the end of camp, but she would have been just as happy to stay.

rainette: So. You want to go back tomorrow?
Tadpole *nods frantically*
rainette: allrighty! That's all set then!
Tadpole: But I'm not wearing the T-shirt. Do I have to wear the T'shirt?

ahahahaha yes you do. The purpose of having you all look like a Battallion of Matching Demented Canaries is to make sure no-one gets lost, so the day-glo yellow T-shirt is a must. I am even tempted not to wash it, in the fear that its glowing quality may be lost in the washing-machine, but uh. *looks at T-shirt* OK, not a good idea. Let's wash it anyway and see what happens.

One down. Four more days to go.

OMG, I have to get up at 7:00 tomorrow again *hyperventilates*

Yes, I know I am a whimp and many people get up at 5:00 am everyday. But you've never seen me in the early morning, you have no idea how USELESS I am. Ahahahaha and I want to be a figure-skating mum *headdesk*

Wow, the car-pool sounds like a military operation! I bow to your organisational prowess :D

Also, when you say you want to be a figure skating mum, what does that entail? Being a mum who figure skates, or a mum of a figure skater? /facetious :P

Both would be very cool *grins* - parenthood, on ice! I sympathise with you about the early mornings - some people (me included) are biologically disinclined to get up that early :(

*laughs* well, my Froglet is a skater. I take her to the arena, is all. But she's really good, and she loves it. I can skate in straight lines, but I absolutely cannot brake, not to save my life. *g* So I am grateful that they are finite spaces with a WALL around them.
