Tadpole likes apple tart without apples, i.e. I get to eat the apples and she eats the rest. But I am not sure she would actually want to eat the crust if I had just baked it, as is, without any apples.

Tadpole only likes milk in which cereals have macerated for a while. So she asks for a bowl of cereals (Special K with almonds), fishes out all the almonds (tiens, maman, there you go, mum), eats a few spoonfuls, then decides she's had enough and only wants to drink the milk (guess who finishes the cereals?). But she will not have milk that hasn't previously contained cereals. It's not the same milk.

Tadpole like hot dogs with ketchup, she says. But we know better. We know she likes hot dogs with ketchup, but without a bun. Oh, and hold the saussage, too.

Tadpole might also tell you that she likes smores, but she doesn't usually warn you that she likes them without graham crackers or marshmallows. She's still the first one to petition for roasted marshmallows, but that is only because she likes to set them on fire, then blow them out. And then? She presents the charred remains of the marshmallow to me, and expects me to eat it. *makes face*

Tadpole will not eat anything that is obviously cooked, especially not meat. She's truly French, that kid, and loves rare beef, but seulement le rose, maman, only the pink bits, mum.

Tadpole will not touch the melted cheese on potato gratin, either. Funny, that: I remember not liking it either, as a child, and my parents always said "but it's the best part!" and fought over who would get my share of fromage gratiné. Now we do that, with Husband, since both our girls hate the melted cheese on potato gratin. Round and round we go.

So I am grateful for cheerios, and plain bagels with cream cheese, and baby carrots, and uncooked apples. I am grateful for every item of healthy food I get that child to actually eat.

Little kids are always fun, I don't rememeber being quite that picky when young but I did tend to eat some weird combinations of things.

Can you share the recipe for potato gratin please, something I love but have never quite figured out.

Amen

If we ever get together, we shall have hotdogs as my children like hotdogs with ketchup only hold the hotdog, please. :/

Hahaha, omg. I was hideously fussy as a child, but I don't think I did anything like that - I'd have to ask my mum. To be fair, if she's not overly fussy, you're doing ok. I was a nightmare to feed. I still am fussy really, but much nicer about it, and will try things. Plus the trying things thing has worked in my favour in places. XD

My son, Jacob is the same way with milk. I have discovered it's because the milk is sweetened by the sugar in the cereal.
We are going to the dentist tomorrow, the kids, not moi. Jacob has at least two(count 'em!! TWO) cavities. Since I found them, trust me, he's drinking his milk...without cereal ;)

Tadpole is my long-lost food soulmate, 16 years late. Or something. Seriously though? I was totally at LEAST that picky when I was younger. I'm better now! But it was a long process going from that to this. And I still pick mushrooms out of everything. :D

ahahahahaha and then you will know what a culinary FAKE I am :D

There is nothing simpler that gratin, I'll post the recipe in an entry (but it's, like, very very simple. Might even add one more very into the mix, really)

*laughs* Tadpole will get along fine with them.

And we can get Froglet to eat a few hotdogs, she likes them. ;)

*g* I can get Tadpole to try "just one bite", usually, though it's not that easy, but I make a bargain with her: she tries one bite, and I won't insist if she doesn't like it.

And I have to say, I've had surprises. She'll say she hates zucchini, cos that's what her sister says, but she actually loves grilled zucchini, so the trick is to get ONE BITE into her mouth.

*laughs* She's very determined.

But you know, she doesn't look like she's starving, so I suppose she gets enough and the trick is to make sure she gets enough of the GOOD things. (Cos she'd happily live on chocolate alone, provided it is Ritter Sport Praliné *headdesk*)

meep. Though, you know, I'm pretty strict about teeth-brushing, but I don't obsess about sweet things anymore, not in that respect.

I mean, for Froglet, I was The Mum Of Doom: I respected all the rules, I never missed out on one drop of fluor (water and milk in France aren't supplemented in Fluor or vitamin D, so children get a little of each in the form of drops), and I have to say, her baby teeth were PERFECT.

And then, her first Big Teeth came out. And before the first molar was completely out, bing, she had a cavity. I was horrified when the dentist basically told me that she must have had a bad fever when that tooth was being made (as a wee child), and that it was a bad quality tooth to begin with, and chances were she'd need a crown on it before she turned 20 anyway...

*laughs* so does she! And she has the BEST EYES to see the tiny pieces of mushroom you may have forgotten to take out (cos she asks you to do it, right? She doesn't like to get her fingers dirty, and besides, if she picks the mushrooms, she flings them all over the place, whereas if I do it, I get to eat them).

I did that for a while, go through and find mushroom or other unwanted food bits that my parents missed, but the complaining got to them. Somewhere along the line they trained me to pick things out into a neat pile on the side of my plate (cause I may not like it, but they still do! Like you :D).

*is catching up with your posts" Tadpole and I would get along perfectly - I prefer apple tart without the tart ;-)

I don't think I was very fussy as a kid, but Mamma's got some funny stories which she loves to tell. For example, I really loved (and love) Sauerkraut... much to the horror of my uncle, who couldn't imagine why a kid would like that stuff :-)
