Froglet: *in a hoarse whisper* Nope. And Monsieur kept making fun of me, that was very annoying.
Me: what did he do?
Froglet: He'd come over to me and whisper my name and only talk to me in whispers! I am like, MONSIEUR. I can't talk above a whisper! I am trying, but I can't! I am not doing this on purpose!
Me: well, when you whisper to people they tend to whisper back. It's super annoying when you're sick and not doing it on purpose, but yeah.
Froglet: Monsieur Chemistry Teacher, however, made me this special black tea...
Me: Really?
Froglet: Yeah - he was like, "THIS TEA CURES EVERYTHING BUT DEATH"
Me: o_O
Froglet: so he's in the middle of his chemistry lecture, right, and all of a sudden he stops and says "hang on, the tea is ready, I'll be right back" and he goes to the back of the class, tinkers with his pots and pans for a while and brings me a cup of really hot black tea.
Me: Man, Monsieur is so nice. I'd really like to know what was in the cup, though.
Froglet: and he kept doing it throughout the day!
Me: what.
Froglet: yep. In the middle of French class, there's a knock on the door, and in waltzes Monsieur, "don't mind me, this is very hot, be careful" and brings me a cup of Special Black Tea that Cures Everything but Death.
Me: just when I thought Monsieur could not be any more awesome. Well, done, Monsieur. Well done.

Date: 2016-11-03 06:51 pm (UTC)Monsieur has been Froglet's favourite teacher since she was a gangly ninth grader. I remember butting in during parent-teacher conferences that year - I hadn't made an appointment to see him, but Froglet had made me promise to say hi to him because "HE'S SO AWESOME, MUM!" So I waited until the crowd thinned a bit and I just walked over, cutting off the next set of parents.
I saw the wariness in his eyes - "Oh GOD, parent-without-an-appointment alarm!" - so I very quickly said, "sorry - I don't have an appointment, I just wanted to say hi because my daughter loves you and thinks you're the best! I am Froglet Lastname's mum, btw."
And he spontaneously clasped both hands to his heart and uttered the cutest little "aw" sound I have ever heard a grown man produce. It was just adorable. :D
And as a teacher, I know exactly how he feels - it's so rare and precious to have students who genuinely want to learn and express their enthusiasm for our field of expertise, especially in high school. She's not taking physics in the second semester and he's expressed his dismay (because he was looking forward to teaching her again, but she doesn't really like physics, not as much as chemistry anyways) and promised to sent her all his notes.
He is AWESOME, I tell you. :D
