Check it out!
Jun. 18th, 2004 08:28 amFrom the lovely
friede: my girls and me, and Froglet and Tadpole. Look at those beautiful dark eyes! *sighs trademarked happy mom sigh*.
My girls and me
Froglet and Tadpole
Would backflip, but my back won't let me :). I did, however, squee aloud for the first time in many, many years, which earned me a very worried look and a sweet kiss from Tadpole.
Also, eh, why not. Gacked from everyone:
There's a huge chunk of you out there whose LJs I read every day - but in a lot of cases, I don't know how old a lot of you are, or where you live, or basic, normal things.
This is the problem with LJ - we all think we are so close, and while we know about the day-to-day, there's still a lot we don't know about each other. So let's rectify it.
I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. I promise, I will not make fun of you, or say who asked what; I won't divulge any social security numbers and stuff, but I'll try to answer everything - personal, fandom - whatever.
I then invite you to do the same. Remember, seriously basic stupid questions, don't be embarrassed, you would be really shocked what I don't know about you.
Well: I don't really read that many journals, and I'm fairly new to J still, enough so that I don't know any of you personally, and I speak about myself all the time because, hey, that's what my blog is all about ;)
But I'm still game for any question. Just remember the answers may be a little slow to come (father-in-law countdown: H minus 5 hours)

Date: 2004-06-18 01:05 pm (UTC)And, for your meme, i have 2 questions.
1) How old are you?
2) What is your best memory?

Date: 2004-06-18 02:44 pm (UTC)1) Mm. The dreaded age question. :o) I'm 38. I feel a lot younger inside, of course, and I like to think that I look younger, too, but my treacherous kneecaps like reminding me that I am, indeed, approaching the big four-o.
2) Tough one! I have a few memories that would probably allow me to produce a decent patronus. Well, the births of my girls, of course. Froglet, so pretty when we had expected the average ugly churchill-like baby. And Tadpole, who kept looking at us in intense concentration and wonder, as if she couldn't believe she was finally meeting her parents. I won't go into more details because I'd spend the day talking about those moments :)
If I could settle on a moment of personal triumph, mine would actually be linked with theater: when I was in high school, we played Ionesco's Rhinoceros, and right after the last performance, as I was being congratulated by my friends, a hand suddenly cut in and shook mine, and a voice said: "Congratulations, you were very good". And then I saw who has spoken: it was the best actor of a local amateur group (I knew his face because my best friend was in the same group, and I knew he wanted to be a professional actor. He did indeed go to Paris and study acting, but I don't know how he's doing now).
He was much, MUCH older than I was (he must have been 20 or 21 :o) but to my sixteen years that seemed so much older), and I had a crush on him, and that single handshake left me all a-tremble and blushing and happy. No, really. :o)
And then (sorry, this is getting long but I couldn't choose), there is the concert I went to with my parents, and there was a blackout in the middle of it. After a few minutes, the audience started getting restless, and the violin soloist started playing to calm us down again. He played the Grande Ciaccone, from the 2nd partita for Violin solo, by JS Bach, in the dark, in religious, awed silence. That was just, wow. I never quite recovered. That piece of music still moves me to tears today.
Ahem. Sounding terribly sappy. And will stop now, because have tears in my eyes (can't believe it. AM 38, FOR CHRIST'S SAKE. But have yet to grow up and become an adult, though, apparently)

Date: 2004-06-18 02:59 pm (UTC)And those are some incredible memories!! To this day, when i get a compliment on my acting, it totally blows me away. I never know what to say, especially if it's someone i really admire.
I completely understand your music memory. When we went to see the LotR symphony, i was in tears for most of the show. The music and the lighting effects were so incredible, i couldn't believe it! I think it's wonderful that music can affect you that strongly.
:D A

Date: 2004-06-18 04:34 pm (UTC):D It's good to talk about these memories: people close to me have been told these stories billions of times and won't listen anymore; and the acting compliment I dare not mention to people I don't know well, lest they think I gloat (which of course I do :D )
I just googled that would-be actor's name, and it turns out he does work as an actor. I came up with a few hits. He never became famous, obviously, but he never stopped acting either. He's worked with Bertrand Tavernier, who is one of my favourite French directors. I am very happy for him :D

Date: 2004-06-18 02:46 pm (UTC)She's an amazing artist, I agree. :D
Done!
Date: 2004-07-09 09:41 am (UTC)It was all wonderful... many smiles and chuckles. I think I even read most of the comments and didn't email too many comments back to you (though I confess in retrospect that the marriage one got a bit out of hand as I was typing). Hopefully this marathon does not just qualify for my recent run of sad behavior in your eyes [see my own journal], though I would understand if it did. Tomorrow (today)... normal bedtime... I promise. Aplaplaplapla! *vanishes to bed with a wave of the musical wand*
