Tadpole: Wolf!

Tadpole: No, wolf.
Me: No, bear.
Tadpole (suspicious look): Bear.
Me: Very good! And what sound does the bear make?
Tadpole: ahooooooooo!
Me: Bugger

Froglet: Why does he want to kill the daddy bear?
Me: He's not the daddy bear. He's the man, remember? The one who got transformed? The cub is lost.
Froglet: But where's his mommy?
Me: She's dead, remember?
Froglet: BUT I DON'T WANT THE MOMMY TO BE DEAHEAHEAHEAD! *sobs*

Me: Well, he thinks he's avenging his brother.
Froglet: Where's his brother?
Me: Well, the brother's the bear, he's been transformed, remember?
Froglet: Why does he want to kill his brother? WHAT A BAD, BAD MAN!

Froglet: But I thought the mommy was dead.
Me: yeah, that's her spirit.
Froglet: What's a spirit?
Me: ...
Froglet: Where are they going? How come they can fly? Why aren't the other ones going too?
Me: ...
(any idea as to how to get this one across with grace is very welcome, BTW. I'm at a loss, myself.)

Bugger.

Watching a Walt Disney Movie with your kids? Priceless. Just make sure you bring a good book and ear plugs. Oh, and sit in another room altogether.

*g* Thanks, but I don't agree. I adore your plays.

If you don't want to go into the spiritual side of things just say that they're cool ghosts! And then wiggle your fingers and go "WOOOOOO!" Kids can handle 'ghosts' better than they can 'spirits,' I think.

Oh, and hi! Popped in from Metaquotes.

Oooh, cool ghosts! That's a very good idea, actually. Froglet could relate to ghosts. *ponders* Thanks!

My oldest cried like a girl at the end, I've no ideas! I came in from Metaquotes too, btw.

*humpf* Yeah, the crying factor is high. I tend to cry a lot when I watch movies, but I try not to in front of the kids - they do it enough by themselves, they don't need any help from my part.

Fantastic! One of the best metaquoted posts I've seen.

And if you liked Brother Bear, there's always taking the wee ones to see Bambi, which has Bambi and Dad standing majestically together at the end, and having your movie companion stand up and scream, "Jump Bambi, jump!"

ooh, thank you so much *beams*

But, isn't Bambi terribly sad, too? (I still remember crying buckets as a kid, to be honest).

"Jump Bambi, jump!"

*dies laughing* SO cute!

Too cute...

Think I'd have strangled one of them by now, though I guess the Brother Bear plot is quite convoluted!

(hi btw, came here from metaquotes, hope its ok to add you as a friend? :) )

:D sure, welcome aboard! Thanks a lot for the explanation for the last night of the Proms (that's indeed what the concert was called, and the conductor was British; I'm glad to know he wasn't simply nuts ;) :D )

It was about time somebody metaquoted you, and look at all your new adoring fans *grins* I can't believe the poo burial post didn't make it... or any number of other memorable Rainette-isms. Well, now the world knows. Just remember who was here before the fame and fortune, albeit only a week and half before. Alas, I fear I shall never be 'discovered' and let's face it, I haven't been a bundle of laughs recently anyway. *woe*

I need a tadlet and/or a frogpole in my life to give me inspiration for funnier posts. My ex's boys were inspirational in their own way... but that was before I joined LJ, and the inspiration would have been mostly of a frustrated "I keel you" nature anyway.

Well, he thinks he's avenging his brother.
At least you got a five year old response from the use of a grown-up word like 'avenging'. I used to get laughed down at the office when I said 'the right word' if it was quite long and not very Southern. I soon learned not to be too sesquipidialian in (my area of) the South. It wasn't that the words weren't comprehended... it was just that it was expected that you would put less thought into informal speech and just use a shorter but less appropriate word I guess. Brits can sometimes be overly verbose I suppose; this paragraph being a shining example *shrugs*

Hell, I get that sometimes in California. I have a few acquaintances who think I use big words to show off rather than because they come naturally and just make more sense.

So glad someone can relate. As a result I shall happily bestow *friend* status... I hope that's ok. You write an interesting journal... with some long words *grins*

*sighs* I hear you. The same happens to me in French sometimes. (When I use big words in English, my English-speaking friends assume I don't know better - no, really :D )

Don't know better? What, do they think it's impolite or something?

*shrugs* Nope. But a bit pretentious, maybe.

Actually, thinking of it, no, they don't think it's impolite, they may not even think it's pretentious. What I meant to say is, they assume I talk as I was taught in school/University, and I haven't graduated to "normal" English talk yet. I guess.

*g* Well. It helps that they are my girls. Apparently we (moms) come equiped with a tiny love-hormone-dispenser that works full blast until our babies are 18 months old. And by that time, we're hooked on baby love.

So when I say my girls are lovely, I can't really be trusted, though what I say is the Absolute Truth for me.

I do use a lot of long words with Froglet, but I don't always give you all the details about the long, tedious process that goes with it (what does adenge mean? AVenge, sweetheart, aVenge. *tedious explanation follows, until comprehension dawns*. I am lucky to have a bright Froglet, I admit.) In both languages, actually. But she's interested, so it's fun.

And I LIKE long words. Always have. :D
