Don't you hate it when the last available legal parking spot is taken, before your very eyes, by a Parking Enforcement Vehicle? Not. Fair. *stomps foot*

Watch where you are 'stomping'... it was proving too difficult to pack in full armor; so I don't have adequate plate metal footwear to protect me from your violence. It's a leather jerkin only day.

heh, he said jerkin...

sorry, don't mean to troll... i remember one time i wasn't sure where to park, and didn't know what "code enforcement officer" was (he patrols and checks if the city's lawns are all mowed) so i sat in the car until he moved... felt dumb after finding out what his job really was...

You mean, someone does that AS A JOB? I want to be paid to wander around and check the mowing status! Sounds like a good career opportunity. ;)

well, there is a new (couple years) ordinance in town that made much more strict regulations on grass height, and overall lawn tidiness... we want a "presentable logansport"... yea, fuck that and get rid of the 4 abandoned businesses since i've came home for the summer... that would be a little more presentable, methinks...

Your icon! *giggles* eeek, make sure you park your feet in legal spots then. But you're not really in danger. I seem to stomp preferably into dog poop, alas.

Not near as much as I hate it when the cops park in illegal spots just because they can...

Oh, but see, this is the point: if they had, I could have taken the last legal spot... whereas as they took that last spot, I was most efficiently screwed. Blah.

almost hit a cop today because he was driving like a complete and total moron (speeding, improper lane changes, turning on red when illegal)... no lights, no sirens, no warning... i wish the county cops would patrol the city so they could nail the city cops for their wrong doings (saw it in a friends' home town, city cop turn lights on to run a red light)...

In our office, we have a policy that prevents the cops from running with lights and sirens except if there's no other way to get through an intersection. We've found that having the lights and sirens on actually distracts more drivers and causes more accidents than with them running quietly.

Of course, then citizens get ticked off because they think the cops are just going for their Krispy Kreme fix, when really there's a bank robbery with a hostage situation going down.

If you're in law enforcement, you really can't win.

Have you ever noticed how policemen get their food comped at McDonald's, BK or such like? Or is it just here in Alabama? I don;t necessarily disagree with it, but it's just one step away from Mafia-style protection rackets if you ask me. I do realize that nobody asked me though.

i have witnessed it all over... since 9/11, law enforcement have been taking advantage all over the place... it makes me kinda sick that they capitalize on the misfortune of others...

granted, they are providing a service... kinda... i have never encountered a law enforcement agent that did not try to harass/intimidate me because of his current occupation...

*nods* It's not just the States. A few years ago, a cop got busted in France for hitting a pregnant woman in the streets; there were fighting for an unknown reason, and when she mentioned the law he answered very loudly "I am the law!" and slapped her.

It turned out a neighbour was video taping the whole scene. It got shown on National TV. Very chilling.

Thanks :D

Ooo, American smoker, aka designated Bad Guy in any recent American movie (X-Men's Wolverine is out, he smokes cigars, and when asked he'll put them out. Also, he's Not Civilized, so there).

*hugs* ahhhh... sweet Rainette... I'm pretty sure they have Burger King in Europe... or they did when I lived there. Roi d'hamburger?

*blushes* yeah, yeah, you're absolutely right. Only nobody calls them BK's. (And no, only in Quebec do they translate restaurant names. In French it's Burger King, alright.)

Around here some of the restaurants do it, some don't. It's strictly a choice by the restaurants themselves, the policemen aren't allowed to demand anything. I worked in several different food places and the unofficial policy always was, if a cop in uniform comes in and acts polite, give him half-price; if he demands a discount or acts rude, act ignorant and tell him you don't give discounts. :)

It's nothing like a protection racket; it's a recognition that those guys are providing a valuable service, and it's a way of giving them a little something back. Of course the management figures that the establishment is less likely to be robbed when a uniformed officer is sitting right there; it's a you-scratch-my-back-and-I'll-scratch-yours deal. Everybody's happy.

And (combining posts) to the person who mentioned 9-11--it's nothing to do with that. Cops and businesses have always done this, and jerks have always been jerks regardless of what their profession is and regardless of the times they are living in.

I look at cops kinda the same way I look at Catholic priests--a few of them get really bad press (for a good reason), but there's thousands of them out there doing the absolute best they can, and not getting any thanks and certainly not making any money from it.

Hear, hear. Being a cop isn't an easy job, and you easily get assimilated to the big-headed, I-am-the-law jerks (and there are a few, but there are also lots of people in there trying to make an honest living, and getting bad press anyway).
