Thank you very much for your help, much appreciated. Maybe 10 seconds after you logged off, I realized I had pounced onto the first "Comments" I had seen, which - very typically I'm afraid - was on the 3rd line, and concerned the friends view only. Once that was corrected, it worked.

Am a little peeved, though, because it only figures in MY LJ, it doesn't override the default values in the friends view, so basically no one will see it but me. Ah well, at least it's done. :D *is off to tickle her tadpole*

basically, if you are using the S2 style system, you will have to create a new style based on your current style by going here: http://www.livejournal.com/styles/edit.bml

if you are using the S1 style system you can go to the modify journal page [ http://www.livejournal.com/modify.bml ] and use overrides.

oh yea, and about the mass deletion... livejournal currently does not support mass actions as such, as outlined in the FAQ [ http://www.livejournal.com/support/faqbrowse.bml?faqid=126 ] but some clients will allow you to delete items much faster...
