If I could vote today, I would
Nov. 2nd, 2004 12:38 pmI still remember the day the canton of Appenzell in Switzerland gave women the right to vote and present themselves to be elected in local elections. No, I am not joking. It's that recent.
I still remember how it felt to be too young to vote. The joy of the victory, for we had won, but also the frustration that that victory wasn't mine.
I remember going to great length to be able to vote. The story would be too long to tell, but I did manage to vote when it should not have been possible. I am still proud of the stunt I pulled off that day, especially since it was for the Maastricht Referendum in Europe, and the result was so damn close.
I remember voting for someone I truly didn't like, because the alternative would have been so much worse.
You know, I don't live in your country, nor do I ever intend to, and I guess I should keep my big mouth shut today. But if I were you, I'd be lining up, and I wouldn't care how long the line up is.
Vote, Americans.
And if push comes to shove, there is room on my couch in Canada for those of you who might need it.

Date: 2004-11-02 11:28 pm (UTC)I've been tense and snappish and hopeful and excited by turns all day today--I feel like I'm about to hurl from the nervousness.
Is that an actual offer, or a metaphorical one? ;-)

Date: 2004-11-03 12:21 am (UTC)Oh, it's an actual offer. Although I'd rather meet my LJ friends in less dramatic circumstances (as in, to celebrate a victory rather than running away from defeat :) ) *is hopeful*
