rainette: Were you a little scared of the needle, Froglet?
Froglet: Uhuh.
rainette *pets Froglet's hand*: that's OK, you know.
Froglet: but mommy?
rainette: yes?
Froglet *slightly frowning, in her best reasonable voice*: That doesn't mean that I am not Brave
rainette: :D Of course it doesn't. I know you are brave.

In the meanwhile, Froglet is staying home today, because her arm is a little sore. Well, I remember my arm being sore too after getting my booster shots, and I think brave little kids should get Compensations, especially right now when she 1) likes school, and hates to miss out on all the fun, so I know she's not just trying to cut classes, especially when she has such an EXCITING story to tell her friends, 2) is still in Kindergarten, so it's not like she'd going to miss out on a trigonometry course.

Still. I asked why she didn't want to go to school today.

Froglet: It's not the school, it's recess. I can't play soccer if I can't run because my arm is sore.
rainette *valiantly ignores anatomical improbabilities and plods on* Can't you play with the girls for a change?
Froglet: Well, Margot always wants to play with me, but then we always have to run...

It boils down to this: Froglet's arm hurts so she can't run (no, I don't know that this makes much sense, either), and when a friend asks her if she wants to play, she just doesn't say no, ever, cos she doesn't want to hurt their feelings. *sighs* That's a lesson she will have to learn someday, though.

I still remember her last birthday, when she suddenly burst into tears unexpectedly, and when I tried to find out why, she told me in-between sobs that EVERYONE wanted to play with her and she couldn't play with everyone at the same time...

No no, it makes perfect sense! When your arm is sore, you don't want to go jolting it about. She is such a smart Froglet, and so very brave too.

And the last birthday bit: Awwww...!

:D We're headed for the same problem this year, cos the list of People To Invite keeps getting longer and longer -- I blame the class reshuffle at the beginning of this year. They changed her to put her with another group of kids, so now she wants to invite all the new friends, but she still wants to invite all her other friends, too. We had 32 kids at the party last year (albeit a joint Froglet/Tadpole party), and I think we're more or less headed for the same thing this year...

I think Froglet is Very Brave (and Diplomatic), and I hope her arm is feeling better! It is an awful crime to be unable to run.

I tell my babies that brave is "doing something when you're scared." She IS brave.
