Humane removal of: Skunks - Racoons - Squirrles.

And because I am that way inclined, I checked all four sides of the vehicle to check if it was just the one mistake, or if they truly killed them more humanely than they spelled their name. *sighs* Squirrles. 4 times. *headthunk*

In other news, Maggie the elephant at the Anchorage zoo is Too Heavy, and people are considering building her a treadmill. I kid you not.

[livejournal.com profile] copperbadge, I did find the article, but it didn't have a picture of the elephant on the treadmill (I must have dreamed that), just a picture of the elephant in the snow. So I showed it to Husband.

rainette: they say the treadmill would cost about 150,000 dollars. For that kind of money, I'm ready to walk their elephant myself.
Husband: You can't because it's Alaska. LOOK, THAT ELEPHANT IS STANDING IN THE SNOW.
rainette: Ah, crap. Yeah, can't walk an elephant in the snow.
Husband: Poor animals. Imagine, Impalas in the snow? Ostriches?
rainette: ...
Husband: maybe they have giraffes, too?
rainette: wow. they must be cold.
Husband: what if they get a sore throat?
rainette: ...
Husband: ...
rainette: ...
Husband: I wonder how much time it would take to knit a turtleneck sweater for a giraffe?
rainette: :D

There was an arts and crafts exhibit some time ago at the Toronto zoo that actually showed knitted socks for elephants and a sweater for an orang-utang. No, really. People come up with the most unusual ideas sometimes.

AND: I give you the "evolution of the frog" icon :D. With many thanks to the talented [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge, again.

ETA, from [livejournal.com profile] juniper200The Anchorage Zoo is actually all native Alaska fauna, except for the elephant, which was a gift they can't seem to get rid of.

:D I've also got a non-animated Tadpole icon, and a non-animated Froglet icon (yes, still Sam's work. But aren't these drawings just fantastic?)

*cracks up* "Hey, do you want an elephant? I'm giving it to you, only you pay the postage!"

Poor Maggie. I can't imagine it's a lot of fun for her, what with all the snow and the cold. Thanks for the info!

There are actually animal-rights groups trying to "release her back into the wild." *snort* We are talking about an animal who was bred into captivity... there is no way she'd survive in the wild.

And for the record, she has a lovely enclosure that keeps snow and cold out.

The treadmill will be a sight to see... I can't wait until she gets it! :-)

Oh, that's right! You're from Alaska!

No, I agree, she wouldn't survive in the wild -- and I am just laughing cos the idea of an elephant on a treadmill is hilarious in itself. I hope someone finds a reasonable solution for her, though: possibly a solution involving a less cold environment. How cold does it get in the wintertime? Cos I mean, we get really cold temperatures, and the entire herd of elephant spends the winter inside at the Toronto Zoo.

It can get down to -25 degrees F

I think people ought to worry about things closer to home and leave our heffalumps alone! :-)

That misspelling makes my editorial heart hurt very badly. Urgh.

And your husband is just so darn cute :D

:D Purely conjectural, though. I don't think he ever envisioned actually knitting a turtleneck for a giraffe -- but I can picture him doing the maths, trying to figure out how many kilometers of yearn you'd need. He's like that, that Husband of mine.
