YAY MET LJ FRIENDS!
Jul. 17th, 2005 10:06 amI met LJ friends in RL for the first time yesterday, and I can't stop squeeing. :D It was lovely and fun, and we had coffe and madeleines, and Ray, we're so totally going to visit next time we're in the area, and Char, I'm friending you right when I'm done with this entry.
And then? I took the girls to a pirate-themed B'day party.
And then? I went home and grabbed that book again, and finished it.
Now, of course, by the time I got to the point where I had a few theories or ideas of whatnot and wanted to show them around, everyone else had already poo-poo'ed them and come up with cleverer ones, so I'll shut up. Just one thing:
So. Neville has the last wand Ollivander sold before vanishing? What? Any theories as to what that might mean in the future? Please point me to them?

Date: 2005-07-17 07:47 am (UTC)I'm not sure whether Ollivander's vanishing is linked to Neville for any reason other than to reinforce that Neville was lucky to get 'his' wand. Abducting the guy who is the biggest supplier of wands to wizarding Britain (as far as we can tell) would be a good way of disrupting Life, and shaking people up. He and Fortescue were both well-known.
I'm not sure that any of that's new, really, and I'm sure others are likely to have said it already, elsewhere - but still. 'What it Might Mean', according to Maple Clef ;D
Also - no matter what others might have trashed/confirmed regarding your opinions of the book, I'd still be interested to hear what you thought, being the intensely nosy person that I am!

Date: 2005-07-17 02:56 pm (UTC)I wouldn't put it past Dumbledore to use his death to secure Snape's place with Death Eaters. Also, Snape is the usual suspect, always has been, so I can't believe he is OMG EVOL! Cos then he'd be a lot less interesting, too, wouldn't he?
I mean -- Dumbledore has said REPEATEDLY that death was not to be feared. Why would he plead for his life? I makes a lot more sense if he is pleading for something else altogether: "please: do what you have to do. Do what I asked you to do."
Whaddaya think?

Date: 2005-07-17 04:18 pm (UTC)Absolutely... I think it would make sense, if Dumbledore knew he was dying, for him to ensure Snape was in a prime position to influence Voldemort / possibly manipulate him. DD makes it very clear he trusts Snape implicitly - of course, he could be mistaken. I'm not convinced that the reason Harry gave for DD's renewed trust in Snape was the actual reason.
Cos then he'd be a lot less interesting, too, wouldn't he?
Again, I'm with ya! It's funny, I never found Snape particularly interesting as a character. HBP has made him and his motivations lot more ambiguous, and I like it! Although he still is a sad case, whatever way you look at it, isn't he?
Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
