la_rainette: (evolution of Frog)

Tadpole showed us the craft she made at the zoo: a mobile made with a stick and a piece of string holding 4 pictures, and a little plastic ball at the end. What amuses me most is that the pictures are actually that of the frog evolution (pretty close to those used by the talented [livejournal.com profile] copperbadge to make this icon): one tadpole, two froglets at different stages of evolution, one frog. :D Add a frog prince, and you've got our family covered. Tadpole has decided that she didn't want it to hang from the ceiling and uses it like a toy fishing rod instead.

The weekend was busy: our first sleepover as hosts! Last week, the kids got organized.

Best Friend's Mum *is driving the kids to zoo camp*
Froglet: Hey! We should do a sleepover?
Best Friend: Yes, sure!
Froglet: OK, who goes first? Do you come to my place, or do I go to yours?
Best Friend: You've been to Cecilia's for a sleepover already, so I'm going to your place first.
Froglet: OK, well, next Saturday?
Best Friend: Yes! And the following Saturday, you come and sleep at our place.
Best Friend's Mum *listens in and takes notes*

So Best Friend came to stay with us, and we set up an air-mattress in the playroom for Froglet and Best Friend and Tadpole who gatecrashed their little party (but they were kind and let her). We put them to bed at 9:00, and of course they chatted for a long time, and called Husband once, to take care of what they had identified as being a possible spider (and turned out to be a tiny hole in the wall *rolls eyes*), but then they just fell asleep by themselves and slept right through the night.

We were pleased.

The next day, we took everyone to the zoo. Yes, again, I know, but I had raved so much about the Drum Cafe that the kids all wanted to go together, so we talked Best Friend's mum into joining us with her two daughters. As it turned out, the leaders at the Drum Cafe weren't the same as last time I went, and the session had a few more lame jokes than I cared for, and the music was a little bit simpler (well, it was also a lot more crowded, which explains it), but it was still really fun, even if Froglet stopped playing after 2 minutes cos "her hands hurt" (ahahahahaha I told you so!)

Tadpole demonstrated her perfect grasp of what was expected from her for about 10 seconds, lifting the Djembe and holding it correctly between her knees (no mean feat for such a small child), then dropped the drum back to the ground and promptly sat on it. *facepalm*

And when we left, the kids ran after a group of geese an frightened them into abruptly flying off, which is when I learned my Important Lesson of the day: at take-off, birds let go of any excess weight. In other terms, Best Friend's Mum and I should be grateful that we only got peed on. Ew

But if this weekend marked a big step for us (first sleepover YAY!), I believe it comes as a bigger shock for Best Friend's Mum: not only did her oldest child have his first succesful sleepover, but her youngest daughter got potty-trained. Little Leah perfectly knew how to hold already, so it was all about teaching her when/how to LET GO, and she peed successfully once in the washroom (only since the toilet seats aren't really meant for a child that small her pee flew out right in front of her and straight onto her mum's leg, who thus got peed on twice in one day. Unfortunately, seeing her pee fly off startled Leah into holding again), and once in the bushes (no complicated toilet seats to deal with, WHEEEEEEEEEE! Tadpole, who got to watch and point and say EW!, was pleased too).

And later this evening, we realized that Tadpole understood the Djembe better than the concept of sleepovers.

Tadpole *blinks tiredly*
rainette: go to sleep, Tadpole.
Tadpole: But I want Best Friend to come home first!

Sorry, sweetie. I agree that he's absolutely adorable, and I'd happily adopt him, but I think his parents might object. *sighs*

Hi there *waves back* Nice to meet you! (And thanks for dropping a note :D )

I like your LJ name (so revolutionary! *g*) and the mocha recipe -- hey, I'm going to try that, it sounds like something I am going to throughly enjoy! Have you, uh, tried making the croissants yet, then?

... No. They sound rather daunting. Not that I wouldn't want to, though, but I'd like to do it in peace, which is difficult, with my family. I will make them sometime.
