Watch where you're going, lady!

Tadpole and rainette are walking in the rain. Tadpole looks adorable as always in her very trendy black and white raincoat with flowers. Rainette looks much less fetching, in an ueberyellow very cheap rain-not-quite-coat-but-not-poncho-either bought in a hurry on a rainy day while we were camping (eh).
Tadpole *is tired with walking and holds up arms to be carried*
rainette: You sure? Oh, OK then.
Tadpole *gratefully snuggles against rainette*
rainette *walks fast cos hey, rain is wet, have you noticed?*
Tadpole *suddenly kisses rainette on the nose*
rainette *can't see, tries to brake but is carried my momentum straight into long-haired innocent bystander*
long-haired bystander *staggers under the onslaught*
rainette: Oh, sorry Ma'am!
long-haired stranger *amused, very deep voice*: not quite
rainette: sorry sir
We got wet. I twisted my ankle. Tadpole stomped her tiny foot and shrieked. I bought her a pop cos she was thirsty. We waited a long time for the subway train. And then we finally got on.
I then I thought, wow, my day couldn't get any worse.
Now, one should never think that. Never. Days have very creative ways to prove you wrong, you know. They do.
Tadpole *twitters alarmingly*
rainette: pardon?
helpful gentleman: I think she is trying to tell you that the rain is dripping from your rainscoat into your purse.
Rain?
Ahahahaha. Pop. Pop? ARGH! OVERTURNED BOTTLE OF POP EMPTYING ITSELF IN MY PURSE! HELP!
rainette *tries to salvage book from purse*
Book *drips sadly*
Helpful gentleman *hands over a pile of second-cup napkins*: Here, that might help.
rainette *tries to dry contents of purse*: Thank you very much!
Tadpole *starts nosebleed* meeep!
rainette *takes care of wet purse and bleeding nose and misses train stop*
I believe it is only the second book I thus maim. The first one was Family Matters, which I accidentally dropped in the toilet (ahem). I am still Deeply Traumatized by the whole thing, and so is my beloved leather purse. It is by no means a new purse, not even a recent purse, but I really love it for sentimental reasons and its current state of stickiness and dampness and general yuckness makes me very very sad. *sighs*
Ah, but lookit the lovely icon by Fox (because she is Talented and Kind).

Date: 2005-04-22 11:37 am (UTC)Yeah, Tadpole picks her nose A LOT. It isn't elegant and pretty often ends in a nosebleed. *sighs*
*point to your icon*
Date: 2005-04-22 03:15 pm (UTC)Yup, I have days when I wake up, go to the sink, and then my nose promptly starts bleeding. I then stagger back to my bed with lots and lots of Kleenex.
*icon smiles back*

overachiever
Date: 2005-04-22 03:51 pm (UTC)I do get v. v. upset whenever someone (esp. if they're male) beats me in my fav. subjects (English, Math, History, Biology, etc...etc...)
Do you follow the Kare Kano manga? It's just getting more and more depressing and dark (re: Arima).
So if you're a total overachiever, how do you handle your children's education? *curious*
Re: overachiever
Date: 2005-04-22 03:59 pm (UTC)My children are bright, but very well socialized. I have strong feelings about being very educated, though I do not believe that 'education' is most of what is happening in school. School is socialization -- learning how to give the teacher what she wants, negotiate turns, play nice, etc. My children come home from school and we do 'projects' together, or 'play games', and I teach them at their pace. THAT'S when and where they learn -- during life, with me. (And I dare say it's not as boring as sitting at a desk all day, either.)
conformity
Date: 2005-04-22 04:08 pm (UTC)>>>>>I wish we could talk more about societal pressure to conform
I wonder how Americans identify with Kare Kano though. I came from Asia, so I experienced the pressure to excel in my studies, although nowhere as extreme as Japan. And I can totally feel how we're supposed to excel but still not be too different.
Case in point: school uniforms. I love school uniforms. In Asia (as far as I know), school uniforms are mandatory. Period. Students fold their sleeves, untuck their shirts, loosen their ties, slash their pants hems to "individualize" their uniform. Of course they get reprimanded for it from time to time, but for the most part they get away with it.
On the other hand, Westerners just see school uniforms as a lack of individual identity. (And associate it with rich, snotty, private school kids).

Date: 2005-04-22 03:16 pm (UTC)I love Forrest Gump! Esp. the scene when he talks to an African American woman about being named after this great KKK leader.

*commiserate*
Date: 2005-04-22 03:26 pm (UTC)Ah, nosebleeds. I still have those once a month (more often during winter months). I used to have nosebleeds at least once a day when I was a kid. My Mom was v. v. calm about it, since I inherited the nosebleeds from her *g*
Re: *commiserate*
Date: 2005-04-22 03:35 pm (UTC)Tadpole wouldn't get nosebleeds if she didn't pick her nose quite so much. I mean, the way she does it, it looks as if she were trying to scratch her brain through her nose. And this is how she gets nosebleeds. They never last long, but they can be quite spectacular.
Wow, every day, how, uh, Not Fun!

Yeah, that's why I always have at least six new white school blouses at any given moment. The white fades quickly with all the washing the blood out...It's also partly because I grew up in a tropical country...and all the flag ceremonies I have to participate in.
I also had this skin condition as a kid that necessitates me taking a shower three times a week. It's also aggravated by seafood (but I totally totally love seafood) Ah yes, childhood conditions. I'm v. v. glad I outgrew them.
